Does your injury pain increase when you hurt or move something seemingly un-related to that body part? Ever have pain come back after a bad day or week or several days or weeks at work?

You're not alone. In light of the rise in overdose due to prescription pain medication we take more serious looks into why we get pain. Here's a great animated video describing how pain is both physical and mental.

Your pain itself is very real. It manifests as a shoulder ache, neck ache, headache, etc. Therefore; we must treat those physical symptoms, but not without recognizing that the pain is the product of a hypersensitivity to something else in your life. This is why it's important to have full discussions with your therapist about all aspects of your life that affect your levels of stress. Stress can lead to a lack of quality sleep and create a lethargic body. The lethargic body does not have the endurance to perform exercises much less basic daily tasks.

I suggest to my clients that suffer from chronic pain to be more reflective about their pain. Write down or text yourself the start off the pain and the end of the pain. Also quantify the level of pain you have at any given point. By doing this we begin to actually see pain for what it is, where it is, and then we can formulate a way to interpret that pain.
